2. When someone asks for some
specific themed icons for inspiration on a-i,
I usually add my icons in there too.

3. My icons look too simple,
even when I put a lot of effort into them.

4. adriftingsea is my inspiration.
She can literally icon everything,
her use of composition drives me crazy (in a good way),
and she's probably the real muse of color come down from Olympus to bless us all.

5. I am starting to notice after all
the abandoned communities and closed communities and
this leads me to be very scared and nervous that the icon community may die out.

6. I am so glad that icontalking and naginis for hosting and doing iconsecrets!

10. I might be forced to quit LJ because
my RL is starting to demand more of my time.

11. Depress anon here just wanted to let
everyone know that I am sorta in a better place but I
still battle my own personal demons. But I wanted to thank
all those who commented on iconfession and helping me guide me to get to a better place.

12. I just recently created a lims community,
and I am so worried that I'll fuck it up as a mod.
I hope people can understand and appreciate how much work mods put into their community!

14. I wonder if Naginis is one of the mod over at iconfessing.

15. I wish that more people would
leave comments at each other's icon comms,
instead of the "popular" iconers getting all the comments.
I do love icon praise though.

16. my favorite icon comm is the7days since
the challenges are freaking amazing.

17. My least fav comm is turbo_rumble
since I always feel completely miserable after that challenge.
Maybe I'm not any good at taking constructive criticism though.

18. We should do icon secrets here more often!

It is a really inspiring community! So many fun challenges and no pressure to participate. And both of them do an excellent job.

I've never submitted my own, but I do keep an eye out to see if any of mine are posted.

Is there such a thing as too simple? It's a perfectly valid style of iconing. I think it's pretty much agreed that a good simple icon is just as difficult to make as a good complex icon. I definitely admire well made simple icons and I hope others see and appreciate your work as well :)

That's not always a problem!
I find simple icons harder to make than complex ones, they rely on good colouring, sharpening and cropping skills. Complex ones you can hide your weakness by distracting people with text and textures.

I feel you OP. Because I do have this same doubt many a time. But making simple icons is not a bad thing. At the end of the day, it does not matter if people can see the effort you have put into it ( although I guess it would be cool), what matters is if you like the icons you have made. That makes the effort worth it. That is what I think at least. :)

Me too! I'm super scared of the community dying out because this is one place I feel at home and comfortable and I know a lot of people. I'd hate to lose it too.

Yeah, it was a nice sudden burst of activity! I think it had a lot to do with both 20muses and 10in30 opening. People usually like to participate in the first round of a new promising comm.

Whoever you are, we'll miss you if you have to leave! But sometimes RL is more important. We'll be right here with open arms when you can come back :) Good luck with everything!

I created a new challenge community recently as well and I feel you! I didn't know how much effort put other mods until now and I definitely have a lot of respect for them!
You won't fuck it up if you make your best, and I'm sure you're putting so much effort since you're so worried, that means you care, and if you care then everything will work out, just enjoy! :)

I have the same problem, I've tried branching out and didn't like it. At the end of the day I icon for my own enjoyment so I'll icon what I want when I want to.

Agreed! I remember how much people commented around back in 2012. I did too. I no longer have that kind of time or interest to comment on every single post I see, but I still make sure to comment to everyone in the same challenges that I'm participating in and hope that others would as well (but I definitely don't look down on or make assumptions about people who don't or can't do that).

I love that community and I really wanted to enter the four-five last challenges, they were fun! But lately 7 icons in just one week seems a lot to me :(

It does take a tough skin but I find the experience worth it and it's definitely one of my favorite comms. It's also one of those comms that are fun to watch even if I'm not participating myself!
