1. Hair Porn
In this the prominent feature/focus is the hair of the character. Here are some examples:

2. Creative Crop OR Close crop OR Looking Down

In this you will focus on cropping techniques (whether it be creative crop, close crop or other kind of cropping (for example with negative space) or icon someone looking down. Here are some examples:

3. Geometric shapes OR Patterns OR Levels
In this you can icon with the following icon technique: geometric shapes OR patterns OR Levels. Here are some examples:

4. Vibrant Colors OR Muted Colors
In this theme you must use vibrant colors or muted colors. Here are some examples:

5. Technology
In this theme you must showcase an icon with various technology like cell phone, computer, items that were seen in the 90s.

6. OTP
In this theme you must showcase your one true pairing in a fandom. Note: This can be any couple that you ship hardcore for.

7. Enemy
In this theme you will showcase the enemy in the fandom. It can be the government, the evil villain, or the schoolyard bully.

8. Vintage
In this theme you will showcase vintage icons for your fandom you picked.

9. Flashback OR Quote OR Catchphrase
In this theme you can you use composition of images of different seasons OR your favorite quote or quote from the show OR a catchphrase a character may state.

10. Alternative Universe OR Fanfiction

In this one you are allowed to incorporate only symbols from any fandom that exists outside the 90s (ex: the Tardis, insignia the from game of thrones, the Impala from supernatural, etc)* or casting your characters into different shows (Teen Wolf, Marvel, etc) or you can just icon an alternative universe/headcanon you might have (Ex: Wishing one of your main character marrying or dating someone else in that fandom). OR you can icon your fandom and write your own fanfiction (how you wished the show have ended or any other story you wished the show looked at, etc).

*Ex: I wish this character was a companion from doctor who , therefore you can use that character from your fandom and the Tardis together.

Artistic Choice:

You are welcome to icon up to 5 to 10 icons for this. You can use your heart’s desire to complete this task and you can always use for inspiration the other themes that were not used:

Favorite character in this fandom, profile cropping, summer colors, character you like that the fandom doesn’t, favorite emotional scene or plot twist, out of the box, silhouette, duo, minor character, opposites (of coloring, position, contrast, etc), gradient coloring (one side has different color of the opposite one), decorative texture, three is a company (three people on the icon), border, sense (sight, taste, etc), facial expression, full body, rotate, levels, rainbow colors, cold, circle, blend, rotatation/rotate, monochrome, flowers, icon made in 5 steps, monotone, two people, wide crop, simplistic, more than one, two colors, female, male, frame, black and white, not 100*100 px, and any other choice you wish to do.

Battle due date: Jan 12, 9 pm GST.

I have a general question: do I have to stick to one fandom through the whole battle, or can every icon be from a different 90s fandom?

Your choice as well :) You can do one fandom or many fandoms. The only restrictions the fandoms must be from the 90s :)

The title says nothing about symbols, and none of the example fandoms existed in the 90s. I'm confused.

You are allowed to use symbols from other fandoms including fandoms that are not from the 90s! I hope that helps end your confusion :)
